Abstract

Postpositional phrases, where the postpositions için (for, because of, due to) or dolayı (because of) function as postpositional correlatives, are syntactic constructions that can express causation. In such causative adverbial phrases, the function of the lexical core is taken by a noun phrase which is formed during the process of nominalization by transforming the initial clauses with finite predicates, where the function of the correlative is marked by verbal nouns ending in -DIk / -(y)AcAk. The objective of this paper is to analyze grammatical and semantic structures of postpositional phrases expressing causation in modern Turkish language. The paper also discusses semantically similar constructions in Bosnian language. Such analysis tends to identify syntactic constructions expressing causation in Turkish and Bosnian language that are genetically and typologically different languages.
