Abstract

The end of 1948 brought some very unfavourable climate to the process of industrialisation and electrification of Bosnia and Herzegovina. That was partly a result of some inner weaknesses (lack of raw materials and skilled workers, unsettled relations between urban and rural population), which couldn't have been worked out through voluntary work, competitions, or other similar activities. Along with the internal factors, by far bigger obstacles to the completion of the five-year plan for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina were caused by some external factors, the conflict between the Informbiro and Yugoslav Communist Party above all. The conflict led to the political, economic, military, and every other sort of isolation of Yugoslavia (and thereby of Bosnia and Herzegovina), which was imposed by the Soviet Union, and the countries of so-called people's democracy. Besides, it affected industrial development and brought some significant changes into the economic system. The conflict also led to introducing workers' self-management and to an attempt of decentralisation, as well as to further deterioration of agriculture and craftmanship.
